the anti-valentine

You can say that I haven't had many good experiences on February 14. Historically, my best valentines were in grade school when I would get an anonymous valentine from a boy. As a teenager, 2/14 was okay - in its cheesy 80s way. As an adult, they went from okay to horrible. So I went on a valentine hiatus for a LONG time. Then I met my husband and well, our very first valentines didn't go so well. It went something like this: Kamie: I don't like valentines day. Jeremy: either do I. Kamie: let's not do cards or gifts. Jeremy: okay. Then 2/14 rolled around and I received a card and didn't give one. Ouch. After that, he took me more seriously. The last three valentine's have been the same, we do the same thing, spend the evening doing the same things that we would do on any other day. No expectations, no let downs, no gift that will die or be eaten. Just us. Instead of gifts we have decided to start a new tradition. We will make something together and date it 2/14/some year. Do something together that may not cost alot of money but has our teamwork in it.

I can honestly say that I am still anti-valentine. I am slowly starting to come around, but for different reasons. Starting new traditions is fun and means so much more than a box of chocolate.

Valentine's is lame. I'm with you. I like the alternative holiday tradition you've set up. Sounds cool. By the way, I've linked you on my blog...dueces.
